Summer is here and it’s a great time to explore floral gins. Da Mhile Farmhouse Botanical gin has adorned ourselves for some time now, a Welsh organic gin which we think fits very nicely into the heavy floral category. The introduction of additional seaweed adds another summer element into the mix, and so to ease you into the holiday season we thought we would review Da Mhile Seaweed Gin which is bottled at 42% ABV

On the nose it’s very refreshing with a strong whoosh of lavender and citrus with notes of eucalyptus and pine.seaweed

Tasted neat the gin leads with floral notes: lavender, citrus and eucalyptus really shine through. There’s  something tongue tingling in the mix, this might be the mint. Piney juniper then takes center stage and holds everything up which is followed by a dry, earthy linger which is intense and aromatic.

With tonic the nose holds up and sweetness really comes out. The floral lead stays strong and the tongue tingling is enhanced by the tonic. A peely citrus element cuts into the dry, almost savoury linger and balances the sweetness perfectly, the minty hints make this a very interesting, complex and more-ish gin. The combination of sweet floral, citrus and the seaweed elements offers and most interesting gin with a pleasant umami notes.

Da Mhile Seaweed would be a great gin & tonic to enjoy with a fantastic summer meal or picnic, or perfect in a Gibson. Hats off to summer!
